Mikushi Azuke no gi

From ancient times, a comb is believed that it is an alter ego of a woman and have special powers inside of it. In the Japanese mythology, it is written that Susanoo no Mikoto (a male deity) rescued Kushiinadahime (a female deity) from eaten by Yamata no Orochi (eight-headed great snake) by changing her into a comb and hiding it in his hair. Based on the karma, the two deities got engaged. Based on the story, the bride and the groom will make a vow in front of the gods, their families and attendees.

Oonamuji-no-Mikoto (Okuninushi-no-Mikoto) and Good Match

In Izumo region, October is called as ‘Kamiarizuki’ (the month of god). This is because it is generally believed that myriads of deities gather at the Izumo Taisha Shrine to discuss for the next year’s matchmaking in October. The main deity of the discussion is Oonamuji-no-Mikoto (Okuninushi-no-Mikoto). There are plenty of documents and drawings themed of the story. This is why Oonamuji-no-Mikoto (Okuninushi-no-Mikoto) is believed as a deity of good matching from ancient times.
